I am coming at you today with a little bonus blog post! I saw the amazing Emily from @emmiesbeautylife on Instagram, or Emmie’s Beauty Life here in the blog world (check her out and leave her some love will ya!), post a beauty tag blog post last month and I thought I would give it a go myself!
This tag was originally created by Allie Glines and the general gist of it is that you are asked 21 questions which you must answer. Of course they are all beauty/makeup related (right up my ally). So let’s give it a go shall we?!
1. What is the oldest makeup product in your collection?
According to my Makeup Inventory, the oldest product in my collection is the Down Boy blush from The Balm. I have had it in my collection since 2016! Is that gross or? No judgements please!
2. What is your most recent makeup purchase?
The last beauty product I “purchased” was the Unknown Beauty Box February edition, but that is an automatic purchase each month. The last beauty item I actually set out to buy would have been the Fenty Skin kit from Sephora in January.
3. What is the first makeup product you ever used?
This is a tough one! I think it might be a Rimmel foundation! The one with the orange lid. Whatever it was called, I remember loving it to bits.
4. What is a makeup trend that you used to love but now you hate?
Baking! Didn’t even have to think about that one. I used to really enjoy doing it, but it always made my skin feel super dry and really tight. I never want my makeup to last for hours on end so why I thought baking my under eye area was a good idea I will never know.
5. What is a makeup trend that you used to hate but now you love?
Natural fluffy brows. I wouldn’t say that I hated it, but I never was really into it and never wanted to try it until recently. I always loved the look of filled in ‘Insta’ brows, but now I love a fluffy natural look. Lucky for me, my brows are naturally full and bushy so this trend works a treat for me now.
6. What is your favorite step in your makeup routine?
This is a tough one! I think I am going to go with doing my brows. For some reason I feel like my entire face just comes together when my brows are brushed through and slightly filled in.
7. What is a makeup product you can’t live without?
Definitely has to be mascara! If I could only wear one item for the rest of my life I would always pick mascara. It makes me look awake and alive!
8. What sparked your love for makeup?
When I was a teenager I always had low self confidence and even lower self esteem (I still do at times). I fell in love with watching the OG beauty gurus like Pixiwoo and I just kept attempting to recreate their looks on myself. I also have trouble sleeping, so I would be up at night and would start playing around with different makeup looks until I felt tired. I loved how expressive makeup can be, and for someone like me who has trouble expressing themselves and what is happening inside them, makeup can really help with that. At the end of the day, it all washes off and no harm is done by it.
9. What is the worst makeup look you’ve ever done?
Wow there would be so many! When I used to stay up all night and play around I would continue to add random things to the look until it just looked crazy. I am not the best at eyeliner so I am sure there was an eyeliner look I had done that was just awful and never saw the light of day.
10. What is your favorite makeup look you’ve ever done?
There are so many! I love doing different eye looks on each eye. I will grab a palette and see what different combos I can come up with. I will leave the few that I have done recently that I loved below!
11. What is your favorite drugstore makeup product?
Another tricky one! I own mostly drugstore makeup so I really have tested out a lot. I couldn’t pick a product but I love Ulta3 and NYX the most. Specifically, the Ulta3 brow products and the NYX complexion products.
12. What is your favorite splurge makeup product?
It would have to be my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. This specific one was a collaboration with Mecca for their birthday. I want to try more of them eventually.
13. What is your most repurchased makeup product?
The Australis Fresh & Flawless powder. I could not even tell you how many of these I have been through in my 27 years! Also the Nivea lip balms! I always have ¾ in rotation.
14. What is your earliest makeup memory?
I remember being in high school (year 8 or 9 maybe) and each morning I would wait until my sister was gone so I could steal her Napoleon Perdis foundation. It would have been way too dark for me, and not right for my dry skin, but I always wanted to wear it. That and the all over black eyeliner I would wear everyday without fail.
15. What is your favorite place to shop for makeup?
I used to only shop online at BeautyBay. But now that my nearest shopping centre has their own Mecca, that is my favourite!
16. What is the most underrated makeup product you own?
The Mellow Cosmetics StarDust Glow Palette for sure! It is such a great highlight/blush/bronzer palette and I had never heard anyone really speak about it. I was so happy when I got it in an Unknown Beauty Box and have been obsessed with it ever since.
17. What is the most overrated makeup product you own?
It might have to be The Balm’s Mary Lou-Manizer. It isn’t so hyped up now as it has been on the market for such a long time. But back in the day it was all over everything! Yes it is amazing, yes it is pigmented, yes it gives you a super intense glow, but there are so many other great highlighters out there that do the same thing and haven’t gotten that much hype.
18. What is a discontinued makeup product you wish would come back?
I honestly don’t have an answer for this one! Maybe I wish the Desi x Katy collab with Dose of Colors would make a comeback. I loved the lipsticks, highlighters and the eyeshadow palette and want to purchase them again.
19. Where do you go for makeup inspiration?
I browse instagram like it’s nobody’s business! I search the hashtags for the products I want to use. I also look on Pinterest. You find some great creativity and inspiration through other peoples work.
20. What do you hope to see LESS OF in makeup’s future?
I want to see less judgement, less companies on the non-cruelty free list and less company’s thinking its okay to release a shade range only catering to a specific skin tone!
21. What do you hope to see MORE OF in makeup’s future?
I hope to see more love and acceptance! Love of people’s creativity and hard work, and acceptance of anyone and everyone who loves makeup!
Well there are all my answers! I would love for you guys to give this beauty tag a go. If you do, make sure you tag me so I can see your answers and learn a bit more about you 🙂
