I have a quick, short little post for you all today! If you have been following my Instagram for a while, then you may have seen me mention my Makeup Inventory on my stories. If you haven’t, well let me show you!
First things first, what is a makeup inventory? I first saw my loves kimkroft and beauty_withlauren share their makeup inventories on their stories (I think Lauren may also have a whole highlights reel dedicated to hers so make sure you check it out). I was really intrigued about it. What they explained was that you can use a makeup inventory to hold lots of different types of information about your makeup collection. From the price of products, size, whether it is cruelty-free or not and even ingredients. Now, everyone’s makeup inventory will be different. I know mine is pretty basic compared to Kim’s (as she literally does data for work and well, I can’t match them skills babes), but it works for me.
I use my personal inventory to monitor purchases, decluttered items and empties, as well as my collection as a whole (obviously). I am not going to share the link to my own makeup inventory, as I base mine around the money I have spent on each product, and well that’s for me to know and for you to not worry about! However, I will share some screenshots of my own inventory, and I have created a google docs template for you to use and it will be linked at the bottom of this post!
Firstly in my makeup inventory, I have my Overview page. This page literally just lists all my products by categories (foundation, concealer, mascara, etc.). I am able to then put the total number of each product next to the corresponding category. I update this every 4 months and this way I am able to see how much I have added or gotten rid of from my collection. I also have one for skincare, declutters, empties and purchases.
The next page I use is the Inventory page. This is where I have almost all of these categories (I have separate pages for eyeshadows). Here I list the name of the product, brand, whether it is cruelty-free, shade name, price, size, when I purchased it and when it expires. I love having all my makeup in a spreadsheet-like this as it lets me see what products I typically buy the most, and whether they are value for money or not.
Next up I have my Eyeshadow Pans page . Now, I own a fair few eyeshadow palettes so they need their own separate space. I have each shade in each eyeshadow palette laid out for me, this way I can monitor what I use, what I like or don’t like and what each shade looks like plus the finish.
My New In, Empties and Declutter pages are all very similar and are pretty straight forward. For the New In page, I list any new products I receive or buy, and note how much they cost and when I got them. For the Empties page, I list the name, the price and whether I want to repurchase in the future or not. For my Declutter page, I note what the product is and why I am decluttering it.
Last, I have my Skincare Inventory page. Again, I have this separated into different skincare categories such as face masks, serums, face oils and moisturizers. I love keeping an eye on my skincare also cause I know I don’t go sticking to a skincare routine, so this way I can keep notes on what I like and don’t like and I can also check what I already own so I don’t purchase any unnecessary skincare products. I am also only just going through my skincare and figuring out what is cruelty free or not so that section is not finished just yet.
Want to start your own Makeup Inventory but don’t know where to start? Use this link to access a little template I have made just for you! Enjoy!
